Scaffold data

Scaffold parts per m², by system and depth

How much material a scaffold takes per square metre of face, broken down into the parts that carry it: standards or frames, ledgers, transoms and decks. The engine the app plans with ran the same house, 11.4 × 5.3 m with eaves at 4.5 m, with every catalogue system at each depth it offers: 189 runs.

How many scaffold parts per m² does a house need?

On ScaFix's reference house (11.4 × 5.3 m, eaves 4.5 m), the 108 catalogue systems need a median of 1.63 parts per m² of scaffold face. Modular systems use a median of 7.5 standards and 6.0 ledgers per bay; frame systems use 2.8 frames per bay instead. Every figure comes from the app's engine.

Standards and ledgers per bay, by system type

Medians per bay over each type's systems at their default depth, counted over the whole house: every lift, the long walls and the gables, so a bay's standards include the stacked lengths that reach the eaves. A frame system builds its verticals as frames, so it shows frames instead of standards and ledgers.

What a deeper scaffold changes

53 of the 108 systems come in more than one depth. Between a system's narrowest and widest depth, the parts count on the reference house changes by a median of 8 pieces, and by at most 188 (HAKI Universal). For 43 of them the number of standards, frames and ledgers does not change at all: what follows the depth is the length of the parts across the scaffold, such as the transoms, and the parts at the open ends, such as end guardrails.

Every system at every depth, fewest parts per m² first

189 rows: each catalogue system at each of its own depths, ranked by parts per m² of scaffold face. «≈ (estimate)» marks a total that includes wall ties from a rule not yet checked against the manufacturer's document; Verification status by scaffold system lists each system's source. How the numbers are made

  • Input: the app's example house, 11.4 × 5.3 m with eaves at 4.5 m and a 6 m ridge, scaffolded on all four walls. Both short walls are gables.
  • Each system ran once per depth in its catalogue entry (for a system with length variants, its first variant in the picker), with the app's default project settings: no bottom decks and no platform toward the roof. A run where the engine could not plan the asked depth on every wall is left out.
  • Parts per m² is every piece of the app's parts list divided by the scaffold face of all four walls in whole m². Per bay divides by the bays on all four walls.
  • Standards, frames, ledgers, transoms and base jacks are the parts list's own rows. Decks are its deck rows (decks, decks with ladder or hatch, and planks), not deck accessories such as lift-off preventers.
  • The same house with every system's wall ties, decked levels and bays at its default depth is on Scaffold statistics by system.

Limits

  • The number of wall ties follows the system's tie rule. Their positions must be checked against the manufacturer's assembly instructions.
  • Round corners, silos and hanging scaffolds are in Pro. A round scaffold is not a standard configuration and needs a calculation or the supplier's documentation. A hanging scaffold (Layher Allround and HAKI Universal) always needs a structural calculation from the supplier or an engineer.

Questions and answers

How many standards and ledgers does a scaffold bay need?

On the reference house, modular systems use a median of 7.5 standards and 6.0 ledgers per bay, counted over every lift and all four walls. Frame systems use 2.8 frames per bay instead. On a real scaffold the count follows its height, the lift height and the manufacturer's instructions.

Does a deeper scaffold need more parts?

Between their narrowest and widest depth, the 53 systems that come in more than one depth change by a median of 8 pieces on the reference house, at most 188. The transoms follow the depth in length; the counts for your own depth are in the table.

Can I order scaffolding from parts per m²?

No. The figures compare systems on one house with default settings. For a real job, plan your own walls in ScaFix and use that project's parts list, then check it against the manufacturer's instructions. It is a planning aid, not a structural approval.
