How ScaFix computes the numbers

The tables, totals and renders on this site are not typed in by hand. They come from the same engine and 3D renderer as the ScaFix app, run on fixed examples that we chose.

Where do the numbers on scafix.app come from?

Each page runs the app's engine on a fixed example: the example house (11.4 m × 5.3 m, eaves 4.5 m, ridge 6 m, scaffolded all round) or straight walls of 2 to 10 bays and 4 to 12 m height. The engine plans the bays, lifts, decks and access per wall, then counts the parts the way the app's parts list does. The pictures are the app's own 3D renders of the same projects.

The steps, as in the app

  1. Walls: each wall has a length and a height; gables follow the roof triangle, and connected walls share their corners.
  2. Bays: the wall is filled with the bay lengths of the chosen system variant and its depth.
  3. Lifts and decks: decks are placed at the system's lift heights up to the eaves; the app's settings «Platform to roof» and «Bottom decks» change the top and the lowest deck.
  4. Parts: frames or standards, ledgers, decks, guardrails, toeboards, braces, ends, wall ties and base jacks are counted per bay and lift, grouped as in the app.
  5. Area: scaffold length times the height to the top of the scaffold, wall by wall.

Sources and checks

  • Bay lengths, depths and variants come from the app's catalogue of 64 systems.
  • Wall-tie and bracing rules name the manufacturer's manual or approval on each system page. Where ScaFix has no such document, or has not checked the rule against it, the page says so.
  • Every render is checked against the page's own total before it is published.
  • Pages show the date their content last changed.

Who makes ScaFix

ScaFix is made and sold by Ole Emil Frikstad Urstad, who builds the app and its engine. Questions and corrections: support@scafix.app.

Questions and answers

Are the parts lists on the site exact for my job?

They are exact for the example they show. Your own building gets its own parts list when you enter its walls in ScaFix; always check it against the manufacturer's instructions and the job.

Why do two systems need different numbers of parts on the same house?

Their bay lengths, depths and the way each system is built differ, so the same wall takes a different number of bays, frames or standards and decks.

Is ScaFix a structural calculation?

No. ScaFix is a planning tool. It is not a structural calculation or an approval of the scaffold.
