What is a mobile scaffold tower?
A mobile scaffold tower (rolling tower) is a free-standing aluminium tower on lockable castors, built from frames, braces and platforms. In Europe EN 1004-1 sets the frame: the manufacturer's manual gives the maximum height — typically 12 m indoors and 8 m outdoors — and the stabilisers and ballast for every height. In the US, OSHA 1926.451 and 1926.452(w) limit the height to four times the least base dimension unless restrained.

Using a mobile tower safely
- Build it exactly as the manufacturer's manual shows for the height and platform you need, with the stabilisers and ballast of that row.
- Stand it on firm, level ground and lock every castor before anyone climbs.
- Never move it with people or materials on it; check the wind limit outdoors.
- Have it inspected by a competent person before use and after any change.

Questions and answers
How high can a mobile tower be?
As high as the manufacturer's manual allows: under EN 1004-1 usually up to 12 m platform height indoors and 8 m outdoors. Each system page shows the exact range.
Does a mobile tower need ballast?
Some do at some heights, most use stabilisers instead: the manufacturer's table states it for each height and use. ScaFix shows that row.
