Scaffold software

Scaffold software compared

Which scaffold software fits depends on how you work: one brand or many, desktop CAD or phone, a parts list or a structural check. This table puts twelve tools side by side, with what each vendor publishes.

Which scaffold software is best?

There is no single best tool. For CAD and BIM drawings with structural checks, desktop tools such as Avontus Designer, LayPLAN CAD, ScaffPlan, SMART or NTI fit large contractors. For one brand's systems, the free PERI tools and Layher's LayPLAN work. ScaFix is the browser and iPhone option for planning facade scaffolds of 76 systems with a full parts list, from €39.90 a year.

How to choose

  • One brand only: the manufacturer's own tool (LayPLAN for Layher, QuickSolve and SET for PERI) knows its parts best.
  • Engineering and BIM: pick a tool with structural checks and IFC/Revit or Tekla workflows (Scaffcalc, ScaffPlan, SMART, NTI, LayPLAN CAD).
  • Facade jobs on houses and blocks, several brands, on site: a browser and phone tool that gives the parts list at once (ScaFix).
  • Rental yards and stock: inventory tools such as Avontus Quantify or iRent sit next to the design tool.

Questions and answers

Is there free scaffold design software?

PERI's QuickSolve and Scaffold Estimation Tool are free but plan PERI systems only. LayPLAN runs free for 30 days. ScaFix has no free plan; one week costs €9.90 once.

Which scaffold software runs on a phone?

Of these tools, ScaFix has a native iPhone app and runs in the browser on Android; SMART's phone apps are for inspections and handovers, not design.

Does ScaFix do structural calculations?

No. ScaFix is a planning tool with a parts list, not a structural calculation. Tools with checks are listed in the table.
