Scaffolding for roof work

Scaffolding for roof work

For roof work the top deck must sit right in relation to the eaves, and the gables need scaffolding higher up. In ScaFix the “Platform to roof” setting does this. Here is what it changes on the example house.

How do I plan scaffolding for roof work?

Turn on “Platform to roof”. On the example house (eaves 4.5 m, ridge 6 m), ScaFix then moves the top deck with Layher Blitz from 4.71 m to 4.05 m on the long walls, and the gables get decks up to 6.05 m instead of 4.71 m. The parts list changes from 271 to 285 parts.

Check before the roof work

  • The distance from the top deck to the eaves, and that the guardrail reaches high enough above the roof edge under the rules that apply.
  • The gables: the scaffold follows the gable triangle up toward the ridge, so look at the gable walls in 3D.
  • Roof edge protection and fall protection on the roof itself are not part of the scaffold plan in ScaFix.
  • Ties and loading when roofing materials are stored on the decks: follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Limits

  • The number of wall ties follows the system's tie rule. Their positions must be checked against the manufacturer's assembly instructions.
  • Round corners, silos and hanging scaffolds are in Pro. A round scaffold is not a standard configuration and needs a calculation or the supplier's documentation. A hanging scaffold (Layher Allround and HAKI Universal) always needs a structural calculation from the supplier or an engineer.

Questions and answers

What does “Platform to roof” do in ScaFix?

It fits the top platform toward the roof. On the example house the top deck is then at 4.05 m on the long walls with Layher Blitz, and the gables are scaffolded up to 6.05 m.

Does scaffolding for roof work take more parts?

It depends on the system. On the example house, Layher Blitz goes from 271 to 285 parts, because the deck heights and the gables change.

Can ScaFix plan roof edge protection?

No. ScaFix plans the scaffold along the walls. Protection on the roof itself and the guardrail height above the roof edge must be checked against the rules that apply.
