Gable end scaffolding
Gable end scaffolding
The gable is the highest wall on a house with a pitched roof, and the scaffold must follow the triangle up toward the ridge. ScaFix works out the gable scaffold on its own, with its own bays and deck heights. Here is the gable of the example house.

How does ScaFix work out a gable scaffold?
The example house's gable is 5.3 m wide, with the eaves at 4.5 m and the ridge at 6 m. With Layher Blitz the gable gets 2 bays. In the default setup the top deck on the gable is at 4.71 m; with “Platform to roof” the gable scaffold goes up to 6.05 m, and the scaffold area of one gable grows from 35 to 43 m².
One gable of the example house
The 5.3 m gable with the three systems, without and with “Platform to roof”. The area is the scaffold length times the height to the top of the scaffold. “Platform to roof”: off → on.
| System | Bays on the gable | Top deck | Scaffold area (m²) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Layher Blitz | 2 | 4.71 m → 6.05 m | 35 → 43 |
| Layher Allround | 2 | 4.5 m → 6.25 m | 34 → 45 |
| PERI UP | 3 | 4.5 m → 6 m | 33 → 36 |

What to look at on the gable
- The ridge height: enter the gable with the right roof pitch or ridge height, and the scaffold follows the triangle.
- The top deck on the gable: with “Platform to roof” the gable gets decks up toward the ridge for work on the bargeboards and eaves.
- The corners: the gable scaffold joins the long walls at the corners; check the corners in 3D.
- The ties: the gable is the highest wall, so check the ties against the manufacturer's instructions.
Limits
- The number of wall ties follows the system's tie rule. Their positions must be checked against the manufacturer's assembly instructions.
- Round corners, silos and hanging scaffolds are in Pro. A round scaffold is not a standard configuration and needs a calculation or the supplier's documentation. A hanging scaffold (Layher Allround and HAKI Universal) always needs a structural calculation from the supplier or an engineer.
Questions and answers
How high does a gable scaffold go?
It follows the gable triangle. On the example house, with the ridge at 6 m, the gable scaffold with Layher Blitz goes up to 6.05 m with “Platform to roof”, and to 4.71 m without it.
How much scaffolding does a gable need?
One gable of the example house (5.3 m wide) takes 2 bays with Layher Blitz and about 35 m² of scaffold area in the default setup.
Can I take the gable from a drawing?
Yes. Take the walls from a PDF drawing or draw them yourself, and set the gable by roof pitch or ridge height. ScaFix works out the gable scaffold in 3D with the parts list.
