Scaffolding for painting

Scaffolding for painting a house

For painting you need to reach the whole wall from the decks, from the plinth to the eaves. ScaFix sets the decks by the system's lift height, and with “Bottom decks” you also get a deck at the bottom. Here is the example house with and without it.

What scaffolding do I need to paint a house?

A facade scaffold round the house with a deck on every lift. On the example house (eaves 4.5 m), ScaFix puts the decks with Layher Blitz at 2.71 m and 4.71 m. With “Bottom decks” on, one more deck goes in at the bottom, so the decks are at 0.71 m, 2.71 m and 4.71 m, and the parts list goes from 271 to 300 parts.

Tips for painting scaffolds

  • Pick a scaffold depth with room for you, the paint and the tools; the depths are in the tables on the system pages.
  • Keep the gap between deck and wall small, as the manufacturer's instructions require.
  • With “Bottom decks” you reach the plinth and the lowest part of the wall from a deck.
  • Sheeting and tarps change the tie loads; check the manufacturer's instructions.

Limits

  • The number of wall ties follows the system's tie rule. Their positions must be checked against the manufacturer's assembly instructions.
  • Round corners, silos and hanging scaffolds are in Pro. A round scaffold is not a standard configuration and needs a calculation or the supplier's documentation. A hanging scaffold (Layher Allround and HAKI Universal) always needs a structural calculation from the supplier or an engineer.

Questions and answers

How high must the scaffold be to paint a house?

The top deck should give a working height up to the eaves. On the example house, with the eaves at 4.5 m, the top deck with Layher Blitz is at 4.71 m.

What does “Bottom decks” do in ScaFix?

It includes platforms on the lowest level. On the example house that gives decks at 0.71 m, 2.71 m and 4.71 m with Layher Blitz, and 300 parts instead of 271.

Can I use a mobile tower for painting?

For a whole facade, a facade scaffold is usual. ScaFix plans facade and system scaffolds along the walls, not mobile towers.
