Facade scaffolding

Facade scaffolding

A facade scaffold stands along the wall and is built from frames or standards, decks, guardrails, toeboards, braces and wall ties. ScaFix works out the facade scaffold for each wall and shows the parts list for the system you use.

What is facade scaffolding, and how much is needed?

Facade scaffolding runs along the building's face, usually a frame scaffold with fixed bay lengths and a depth around 0.7 m, tied to the wall. On ScaFix's example house (11.4 m × 5.3 m, eaves 4.5 m), the 13 facade systems with their own page here need between 212 and 344 parts.

The parts of a facade scaffold

  • Frames or standards carry the scaffold; base jacks take up uneven ground.
  • Decks give the working platform on each lift, with guardrails and toeboards against falls.
  • Braces stiffen the scaffold lengthwise, and wall ties fix it to the facade.
  • Ladder or stair decks give access between the lifts.

Limits

  • The number of wall ties follows the system's tie rule. Their positions must be checked against the manufacturer's assembly instructions.
  • Round corners, silos and hanging scaffolds are in Pro. A round scaffold is not a standard configuration and needs a calculation or the supplier's documentation. A hanging scaffold (Layher Allround and HAKI Universal) always needs a structural calculation from the supplier or an engineer.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between facade scaffolding and system scaffolding?

A facade scaffold is usually built from frames of fixed size and suits straight facades best. A system (modular) scaffold is built from standards and ledgers and adapts more freely to corners, curves and changing heights.

Which facade scaffolds does ScaFix have?

ScaFix includes Layher Blitz, Plettac SL 70/100, Hünnebeck BOSTA, ALFIX 70, Scafom-Rux SUPER, Jamax and HAKI Ram among others, each with its own bay lengths and depths. The table lists the ones with an English page.

How many wall ties does a facade scaffold need?

It follows the system's tie rule and the height. ScaFix places ties by the system's rule; the positions must always be checked against the manufacturer's instructions.
